The Essence of Dior – Timeless Elegance and How to Wear Vintage Dior Today
Vintage Dior, from the Bar jacket and the full skirt to lace, chiffon and brocade, with seven plain ways to wear the pieces now.

Dior stands for elegance and structure, and for historical fashion reworked for its own day. The house changed fashion with the Bar jacket, the cinched waist and the full skirt. But it has always used lace and chiffon as well, for lightness.
There are tunics and lace blouses that recall 16th-century doublets, and bantam-weight gold necklaces sculpted into mini ruffs. There is the 18th-century frock coat and the 19th-century redingote. Dior takes the historic shape and makes it something you can wear.

How to wear vintage Dior today
Wearing vintage Dior now is a balance. Respect where the piece comes from, and wear it with what you own today.
- The Bar jacket. Pair an original 1950s Bar jacket with high-waisted tailored trousers or a leather pencil skirt. For a softer contrast, layer it over a lace camisole.
- Chiffon and lace. Dior’s sheer, floating fabrics sit well in a wardrobe now. Tuck a vintage chiffon blouse into high-rise denim, and add studded boots for contrast.

- The frock coat. Wear an 18th-century inspired Dior frock coat over wide-leg palazzo trousers, or as a dress with a corset belt.
- Gold mini ruffs. Dior’s bantam-weight gold ruff necklaces work layered over a crisp white blouse, or against a plain black slip dress.

- The corset dress. Dior’s corsetry deserves a comeback. Wear a structured vintage corset dress with a soft silk robe for the evening, or under an oversized blazer for something with more edge.
- Brocade parkas and coats. A vintage Dior brocade coat lifts an all-black outfit. Keep the rest simple and let the detail show.
- White shirts with a jabot. A Dior jabot blouse adds drama to a plain modern wardrobe. Wear it under a tailored waistcoat.

Worn with something of today, a vintage Dior piece shows why the house has the place it has in fashion history.
